PCS Season at Fort Liberty: A No-Panic Storage Checklist for Military Moves

PCS orders turn a household upside down on a timeline nobody loves. For families moving to, from, or around Fort Liberty, a storage unit near Sanford is often the piece that keeps a move from becoming chaos — a place to stage, hold, or split a household while the dates sort themselves out. Here's a checklist that keeps it calm.

  1. Store the "not shipping" pile separately. Whether you're doing a PPM (personally procured move) or a government move, there's always a pile that isn't going with the household goods — the stuff you'll grab yourself, the items you're keeping local, the things you'll deal with after. Get that pile into its own unit so it doesn't muddy the shipment.
  2. Size for the situation, not the whole house. A partial household or a "hold while we house-hunt" load is usually a 10×10 or 10×15. A full household in transition is a 10×20. Our units start at $39.50/month for the smallest; call and describe the move and we'll size it right rather than guessing big.
  3. Climate-control the sensitive stuff. Central North Carolina summers are hard on electronics, wood furniture, and anything with a screen or a finish. If your move straddles the summer, put those in a climate-controlled unit rather than a hot drive-up.
  4. Vehicles, boats, and RVs. If you've got a second vehicle, a boat, or an RV that isn't making the trip, we have RV and boat parking on-site — gated and monitored — so it's not sitting in a driveway or on a friend's lot.
  5. Go month-to-month. Military timelines slip. A month-to-month unit means you're not locked in if orders change; extend it or close it out as the dates firm up.
  6. Do the online move-in. You've got enough appointments. Contactless online move-in means you can reserve and get access without another office stop.
