Stage the night before, load at first light. Heat peaks mid-afternoon. If you can get the truck and the unit loaded before 11 a.m., you and your belongings both fare better. Stage boxes by the door the night before so morning is carrying, not hunting.
Sort by where it’s going, not just by room. As you pack, split everything into two streams: rugged and sensitive. Rugged — tools, kitchenware in bins, outdoor gear, furniture that won’t mind the heat — goes to a drive-up unit, from $39.50 a month, where you pull straight to the door. Sensitive — electronics, a TV, photos, instruments, and the records a move depends on — goes to a climate-controlled unit that holds a steady temperature year-round. Deciding this while you pack saves a second sort later.
Give a boat or RV its own spot. If the move includes a camper, boat, or trailer that won’t fit at the new place yet, our gated parking keeps it secure and off your driveway until you’re settled. It’s a common need for military families in transition, and we’re set up for it.
Protect the “keep forever” box. Everyone has one — the folder of documents, the hard drive, the photos. In summer that box should ride in the climate-controlled unit or come with you, never bake in a hot truck or non-climate space.
Handle it from your phone. Online reservation, payment, and move-in mean you can lock in a unit from anywhere — helpful during an inbound or outbound PCS, or when you’re doing three things at once. Month-to-month, so orders and dates can shift without penalty.
